Lightweight, Highly Ergonomic Eyewear Viewer Gives Users the Impression of a Color Monitor Floating a Few Feet in Front of Them

The MicroOptical Corporation, the leader in eyewear viewers for the portable electronics industry, today announced the availability of its Binocular Viewer OEM Evaluation Kit. The lightweight, highly ergonomic eyewear viewer, which features see-around optics with embedded opaque mirrors, gives users the impression of a color monitor floating a few feet in front of them. MicroOptical will demonstrate the Binocular Viewer May 20-22 in booth 645 at the Society for Information Display Conference in Baltimore, Md.

"There is a tremendous demand for portable electronic devices that offer on-the-go entertainment, computing and communication. Unfortunately, many of the devices on the market today are limited by the size and mobility of their display," said Mark Spitzer, CEO of MicroOptical. "Our evaluation kit will allow OEMs to test the potential of the Binocular Viewer for offering hands-free, head-up, portable, private and non-immersive viewing of text, graphic and video information from a broad range of industrial, medical and consumer devices."

MicroOptical is offering several versions of its Binocular Viewer OEM Evaluation Kit, including a stereo version capable of 3D demonstrations. All kits include an NTSC interface that alternatively can be configured by MicroOptical for PAL. Product designers, developers and engineers can use the kit to evaluate the Binocular Viewer's ability to provide high resolution images in a lightweight, portable form.

"Sanyo's Mobile 3D HMD, using the stereo Binocular Viewer kit from MicroOptical that Sanyo demonstrated at CeBIT 2002 and CEATEC Japan 2002, gives a stunning image in an eyewear form," said Dr. Kenji Torazawa, General Manager of Digital Systems Development Center of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. "Video-enabled mobile eyewear will allow consumers to enjoy a private movie experience or work on their laptop in complete privacy no matter where they are."
