MicroOptical Displays Eyeglass VGA System

MicroOptical Corp, developer and supplier of innovative eyewear displays, recently demonstrated what it claims is the world's most portable VGA display system at the International Symposium on Wearable Computers in Seattle, the US.

The MicroOptical display system is the first to be seamlessly incorporated into a conventional eyeglass frame and lens. MicroOptical is working with its strategic partner, ophthalmic lens company Essilor International, to make its integrated eyeglass system commercially available.

The MicroOptical display system features a patented combination of optics, electronics and a microdisplay. A small LCD, hidden in the temple of the eyewear, generates high-resolution, 24-bit color text, graphics and video images (640 x 480 pixels, 60Hz refresh rate). The user views the information through hidden optics, which magnify the image and present it to the eye with minimal obstruction to vision. The user sees a large image floating in space at an adjustable distance of a few feet or more.

"Our eyewear displays make on-the-go communication, computing and entertainment more practical by providing a hands-free, portable, private and non-immersive viewing and listening experience," said Mark Spitzer, CEO of MicroOptical.
